Set in a sprawling, leafy campus of 7.65 acres, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Narimedu, is situated in the heart of the Temple city of Madurai. It has the honour of being one of the first few schools to be set up by the Kendriya Vidyalaya sangathan. It opened its doors to the student population seeking quality education, in the year 1968, under the chairmanship of T.N.Seshan, the then District Collector of Madurai. Its development has been such that it has now come to represent the face of sterling public education in this city.Looking back, this Kendriya Vidyalaya was started with classes I to V in 1968. The district Collector of Madurai transferred the land, where it stands now, free of cost to the school in the year 1970. The land was permanently transferred to the vidyalaya in 2002. In 1989, the permanent building of this school was constructed and inaugurated by His Highness P.C. Alexander, the then Governor of Tamil Nadu. In the year 2001, an annexure building for the primary sections was declared open by Sri P. Mohan, the then MP of Madurai. He was also 12 additional classrooms which was inaugurated by Sri. N.R.
